Chevrolet Chevelle Picture Gallery
The Chevrolet Chevelle was introduced in 1964 and later gave birth to the El Camino and Monte Carlo models. The SS Chevelle was available from the start, and in 1966 the SS396 debuted with a big block Chevy rated at 325, 350, or 375 horsepower depending on the version.
1970 was the first year for the SS454 Chevelle, though the SS396 was still available. The LS5 454 cubic inch engine was rated at 360 horsepower, while the LS6 was rated at 450 hp and 500 ft-lbs of torque. This made the 1970 SS454 Chevelle one of the fastest muscle cars of its day. Although few were optioned with the top LS6 engine, the 1970 and 1971 SS Chevelles were big sellers. 1972 would be the last year for the SS Chevelle.
